Revolutionary new EMC concept - combined I/O filter for AC inverters is panacea to motor drive problems
The FN5100 allows the use of screened or unscreened mains and motor connection cables, reduces motor stress, and provides a highly effective means of suppressing electromagnetic interference. It facilitates the use of up to 600m screened and up to 200m unscreened cables. An extremely cost-effective solution for applications involving long individual or paralleled cable runs over distances that are well outside the range of most conventional EMC filter solutions. The filter can be used with up to six paralleled motors driven from one inverter, each having a cable length of 40m of low cost unscreened cable. The FN5100 is suitable for nearly all industrial applications involving three-phase AC inverters and motors. The filter can handle voltages of up to 480V AC and is available with a choice of seven different current ratings from 6 to 33A. System upgrading with a new inverter normally demands screened cables due to higher switching frequencies. The FN5100 can significantly reduce installation time, because the original unscreened cables can be retained. The output section of the filter also reduces the slew rate (dv/dt) and the voltage overshoot of the inverter output waveform, reducing stress on the motor winding insulation and thereby increasing the motor's reliability and life expectancy. Schaffner's FN5100 No-Shield filters are suitable for use with most three-phase inverters having a switching frequency of 10-20kHz, and with 50 or 100Hz motors and is suitable for meeting the requirements of EN55011 standard for emissions from industrial equipment.
