Taicom have IC sockets to suit a wide variety of applications

Taicom, the well respected manufacturer of complete connector solutions also provide a comprehensive range of IC sockets and PLCC sockets. IC sockets are particularly useful in applications where the IC needs removing at a later date for servicing/repair, code updating by changing an Eprom or simply to allow for future expansion to a product.

They are available from Taicom in two contact construction styles - stamped & formed and high quality machined turned pin.

Stamped & formed contact range

Offered in 6 to 56 way, the range uses the cost effective yet reliable Dual Wipe stamped & formed contact construction and has black glass filled PBT insulators that are flame retardant to UL94V-0. The sockets can handle up to 1A, have an insulation resistance of 1000M ohms minimum and can withstand a proof voltage of 1000Vac. Contact resistance is low at 20m Ohm maximum and the operating temperature range extends from -55°C to +105°C. The sockets have a low profile of only 5.2mm above the PCB and are supplied in tubes.

Machined turned pin contact range

Very similar to the above type this range offers increased reliability by using a more robust contact construction, the pins being machined rather than stamped & formed. Available in 6 to 64 ways the sockets utilise a 4 finger gold plated contact in the pin, which greatly reduces the contact resistance down to 10m Ohm maximum. Current rating and proof voltage are the same as the stamped & formed range but insulation resistance is increased to 10,000M Ohm minimum and the operating temperature range extends from -55°C to +125°C. This range, like the stamped & formed, is flame retardant to UL94V-0. Having a very low profile of 4.2mm above the PCB they also feature an anti-wicking construction designed to reduce soldering problems and are also supplied in tubes for convenient handling.

Both Taicom IC socket ranges include standard product on 2.54mm (0.1in) pin spacing and also include Shrink DIP package types with a reduced pitch between the rows of 1.78mm (0.07in). These Shrink DIP products are particularly suitable for use with popular Microcontroller and Eprom IC’s.

Plastic Leaded Chip Carrier (PLCC) sockets

This range is available in through hole and surface mount versions and covers 28 to 84 ways. They are designed to accommodate J leaded or leadless devices, and again incorporate a high quality construction using an insulator material that is flame retardant to UL94V-0. Current handling capability is 1A, proof voltage 600Vac, insulation resistance 1000M Ohms minimum and contact resistance 30m Ohms maximum.
Both through hole and surface mount types incorporate twin slots to aid device removal and are supplied in tubes with an option of tape and reel on the surface mount types for high volume production applications. Furthermore, the surface mount version also has an option of polarising pegs on the bottom to help prevent errors with incorrect orientation during the placement process.

The entire range is compatible with the industry standard footprints and very competitively priced.
