Taicom’s expanded range of RJ connectors now includes surface mount parts

Taicom has introduced two new surface mount sockets to its family of FCC-68 compatible RJ connectors, a 6 way 6 pin (RJ12 style) and an 8 way 8 pin (RJ45 style). |
Both new parts are right angle surface mounting and feature additional support pins in the form of two metal gull wings to aid retention to the PCB and increase long term robustness and reliability. This clever design means these parts are true surface mount devices with no need to have extra PCB holes to allow for support pegs or posts.
The surface mount connectors answer the demands of manufacturers who are seeking to reduce process and manufacturing time and costs as well as increasing the reliability of their end products.
Like all Taicom connectors these two new surface mount additions are manufactured to very high standards using only high quality materials. With electrical ratings of 1A, 150Vac/dc the parts feature gold plated contacts for low contact resistance (20m Ohm max) and black insulators which are flame retardant to UL94V-0.
These latest products complement the already extensive range of RJ style connectors available from Taicom. In fact the range now consists of 16 cable mount plugs, compatible for use with Cat 5 cable and 21 PCB mount sockets in various formats, all FCC-68 compatible.
RJ connectors are commonly found in Telecom equipment, such as telephones and modems. They are also used widely in network equipment. Most of today’s computer networks based on 10/100 base T Ethernet use this type of connector, however, the connectors have also found wider uses in applications such as automotive, medical systems and remotely programmed electronic equipment. Much of the RJ style connector’s popularity is due to its compact size, high data rate capability and low cost. The Taicom series meets all these criteria whilst maintaining high quality standards and offering many options.
With plugs ranging from 4 way through to 10 way in a wide choice of contact configurations, including the very commonly used RJ11, RJ12 and RJ45 connectors, they are available in 2 versions for use with flat or round cable depending on individual requirement. The popular 8 way 8 pin (RJ45) and the 10 way 10 pin plugs are also available in a shielded version for applications requiring high data rates or where susceptibility to noise from nearby sources needs to be controlled.
Furthermore, the FCC-68 compatible PCB sockets are now supplied in five styles: vertical, right angle, right angle shielded, right angle shielded with indicator LED’s and the new right angle surface mount models. The vertical sockets are available in 4 to 10 way with different pin configurations loaded. The right angle versions provide a choice of low profile (black body) 6 to 10 way for applications with space restraints, or standard profile body (grey) in 4 to 6 way and now 2 surface mount models in 6 & 8 way as described above. The fully shielded versions complete the range in 6, 8 and 10 way, with single way and 4 gang LED indicator types, these parts being particularly suitable for applications where data speed is paramount or noise is a problem.
