DC-DC converters for low power applications
The comprehensive range offers cost effective replacements for many industry recognised devices. DC-DC converters are finding popularity in many applications but in particular they have become one of the essential building blocks in distributed power architecture (DPA) systems where they are used to provide the correct voltage and power conditioning at the point of load. Traditionally a power system may have required a power supply that could supply 5, 12 and 15V outputs and these outputs would then have to be routed around the equipment. With a DPA system designers can use a single output power supply such as 12V and then step the voltage up or down at the point of load using a DC-DC converter. Utilising DC-DC converters in this manner can result in a number of benefits as follows: • Simplified
PCB design process hence quicker time to market Furthermore, the use of an off the shelf DC-DC converter can provide a very convenient solution for a voltage step up/down requirement when compared with discrete components. The new Magnetix range of DC-DC converters offers types for both step up or step down voltage conversion. A choice of 5, 12, 24 or 48V inputs and 5, 9, 12 and 15V outputs are available as standard, in various configurations as follows: • Single
output Versions are also available which have remotely controlled outputs allowing power saving when using this feature as a standby facility. This is particularly useful in applications such as portable, backlighting and flash PROM programming. Power ratings extend from 250mW to 2W, and the DC-DC converters have the option of unregulated and regulated outputs with efficiencies up to 80%. All Magnetix DC-DC converters feature as standard an isolated output (1kVdc minimum) that enables the designer to isolate the load and noise from the rest of the system and to prevent ground loops. In addition, Magnetix offer types with higher isolation voltages for safety critical systems. The MMV series for example has 3kVdc isolation and the MMJ series has 6kVdc. Again these higher isolation parts are available in single and dual configurations like the standard types. The new products also feature a wide operating temperature, ranging from –40 to 85 degC at full load (depending on model chosen), with no external heat sinking required. Typical temperature coefficient value is +/-0.05%/degC over the entire operating temperature range. Magnetix
DC-DC converters use high quality materials throughout and are flame retardant
to UL94V-0. Housed in Single In-Line, Dual In-Line and Surface Mount packages,
they comply with the EC RoHS directive for elimination of hazardous substances
and are therefore ideal for new designs. Click on the following links to download product data in Adobe Acrobat format DC/DC CONVERTERS Unregulated Regulated For more information on the full range of Magnetix products available from Anglia please call +44 (0)1945 474747 or email info@anglia.com |
