EPCOS releases tiny gel-protected barometric pressure sensors with calibrated interfaces

EPCOS has extended its series of ASB1200 gel-protected barometric pressure sensors to include new types that feature calibrated analog interfaces. At only 4 x 4 x 2.5 mm they are the world’s smallest sensors of their kind. |
The heart of the new ASB1200V1 and ASB1200VR sensors is a piezo-resistive sensor chip, which is mounted in hybrid technology together with the ASIC. Both types offer integrated signal processing. The ASB1200V1 provides an output voltage of 0 to 1 V, while the ASB1200VR delivers a ratiometric output voltage of 10 to 90 percent of the operating voltage.
The sensors are designed specifically for low voltage applications that require the pressure measurement in moist media. The sensors are optimized for an absolute pressure measurement of 300 to 1200 mbar and operate with a supply voltage of between 2.7 and 5.5 V. Their minimum response time is 1 ms. The sensor’s package features a gel-protected stainless steel pressure port, which is suitable for the integration in IP54 rated products.
The new sensors enable a further miniaturisation of barometric applications in devices such as cameras with altimeter functionality, cycling computers, gas analysers and meters, or HVAC systems in buildings. Samples of the new sensors are now available, while pressure sensors with digital interfaces are in development.
