Schurter PSE EX series now has ATEX approval

The PSE EX has achieved approval according to ATEX class II 2 G Ex ib IIB T4. This approval means that the product can be used in explosive facilities above ground (currently not for underground mining). The protection class refers to the permissible application in areas where an explosive atmosphere can arise from a mix of air and gases, vapors or mist.

The ATEX 95 equipment directive 94/9/EC is for equipment and protective systems intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres. The aim of directive 94/9/EC is to protect employees from explosion risk in areas with an explosive atmosphere. This directive shall also allow the free trade of ‘ATEX’ equipment and protective systems within the EU by removing the need for separate testing and documentation for each member state.

Applications
With the ATEX type examination certificate II 2 G Ex ib IIB T4, the PSE may be used for the following application areas;

• Oil-gas production systems
• Petrochemistry
• Varnish and paint mixing equipment
• Painting equipment

Preparations for extending the approval to include dust-Ex applications are underway. Following successful ATEX testing, the PSE may then be used in the following applications.

• Food processing
• Flour production
• Pharmaceutical industry
• Cement manufacture
