Murata announces industry's smallest isolator, 56% smaller than previous generation, saves space in multi-band mobile phone applications

Murata has developed the industry's smallest isolator for use in 800MHz/2GHz mobile phone handset applications. The CEG23 series' innovative construction helps to save mounting space in even the most demanding of designs.

The new isolator is 56% smaller than Murata's previous generation of isolators, measuring a tiny 2.0 x 2.0 x 1.0mm.

As the trend for high performance and multiple features in mobile phones advances, the demand for smaller electronic components from manufacturers is growing stronger. With the expansion of the multi-band mobile phone market, demand for smaller versions of the RF circuits responsible for wireless communications is especially strong. An isolator is a passive device containing ferrite material which is used to protect other parts of the circuit such as the power amplifier from excessive signal reflection, and as a result, it contributes to better signal quality.

Murata's CEG23 series offers an LGA (land grid array) terminal, reducing mounting space and increasing freedom in RF circuit design. New electrode construction and fully integrated circuitry have reduced the CEG23 series' dispersion, insertion loss and frequency tolerance. Murata has maintained the two-port circuit technology from the current model to maintain excellent matching with the power amplifier. These isolators are suitable for replacing previous generations of Murata isolator in designs which have limited space available.
