New fault protection switch from Supertex includes current foldback to save downstream circuitry

FP0100 Provides Up To 100V Input Voltage Protection

Supertex has introduced FP0100, a fault protection switch with current fold-back that guards against over-current or short circuit conditions in system’s output power supplies.

The switch is suited for applications in which downstream circuit protection is needed, such as high side switches, instrumentation, and data acquisition. FP0100 is the first in a family of fault protection devices Supertex plans to introduce.

FP0100 features a low on resistance of 4.0 ohms typical. The peak current allowed to pass through the switch is set by an external resistor, programmable to 260mA. In its off state, the switch can withstand input voltages up to 100V.

“The FP0100’s response time to a fault is less than 1 microsecond, and it automatically recovers after fault conditions. Supertex is excited to enter into the fault protection market with this innovative approach that offers high speed and automatic recovery for applications that depend on downstream circuit protection,” states Hernan
DeGuzman, Vice President of Marketing for Supertex. “FP0100 can withstand input voltage of 100V by itself, or can be combined with a MOSFET, such as Supertex DN3545, to withstand inputs up to 450V.”

The FP0100 is available in a SOT-89 package (FP0100N8-G). The part is RoHS compliant. Samples are available from stock. Lead-time for production quantities is 4-6 weeks ARO. Pricing is US$0.95 each for the FP0100N8-G in 1K quantities.
