Phoenix Contact introduces right angled M12 flush-type eight-pin plug PCB connectors

The two-part M12 plug connectors from Phoenix Contact are now available in versions with right angled contacts for mounting on PC boards. The product range includes 4-, 5-, and 8-pin connector and socket versions. All versions are available with a shield contact to comply with fieldbus specifications. The necessary shield is directly connected to the PC board. The spring shield connecting plate ensures reliable and permanent contact to the housing panel.

The mounting technique is extremely simple and cost effective. Contact carriers suitable for wave soldering are clipped onto the PC board and then soldered, and the M12 housing parts are screwed to the customer’s housing. The 1.6-mm-thick PC board is then mounted. The contact carriers of the pre-soldered PC board are then pushed from the inside of the device through the pre-mounted connector housing.

For customised housings, the M12 screw connection can frequently be directly integrated into a housing design. For these applications, the contact carriers can also be purchased without M12 screw connection. As a consequence, the M12 connection system can be very cost-effectively used, e.g. in die-cast housings.

The factory provided O ring on the contact carrier provides additional sealing between the contact carrier and the M12 screw connection. This means that, when not inserted, the sensitive electronics inside the unit are not destroyed by any unwanted ingress of moisture. The new family of plug connectors is compliant with IEC 61076-2-101 and fulfils the protection requirements of IP67.
