Introducing the BlueNRG Bluetooth® low energy wireless network processor from STMicroelectronics
The BlueNRG from STMicroelectronics is a very low power Bluetooth® low energy (BLE) single-mode network processor, compliant with Bluetooth® specification v4.0. The BlueNRG can act as master or slave with the entire Bluetooth® low energy stack running on the embedded Cortex M0 core and features non-volatile Flash memory allowing in-field stack upgrading.
With its low power consumption of only 10 mA at 1 dBm of output power the BlueNRG allows applications to meet the tight advisable peak current requirements imposed with the use of standard coin cell batteries. Ultra-low-power sleep modes and very short transition times between operating modes allow very low average current consumption, resulting in longer battery life. The BlueNRG can also be interfaced directly with external microcontrollers using SPI transport layer.
Bluetooth® low energy (BLE) is fast gaining share in the market for connected devices known as the Internet of Things (IoT), this rapid growth segment demands low power consumption and reliable secure short range connectivity. Typical applications for Bluetooth® low energy (BLE) include Watches, Fitness, wellness and sports devices, Consumer medical, Security/proximity, Remote control, Home and Industrial automation, Assisted living, Mobile phone peripherals and PC peripherals.
To aid development, ST have recently launched the X-NUCLEO-IDB04A1 Bluetooth® low energy evaluation board to allow expansion of the STM32 NUCLEO boards.
