Murata expands the DMT supercapacitor series with addition of 220mF model

Murata has expanded its supercapacitor DMT series line-up with the addition of a 220mF model featuring a very low profile.

Supercapacitors (EDLCs) typically have longer life times than batteries and are energy storage devices with higher capacitance than conventional capacitor technology such as ceramic capacitors or electrolytic capacitors. Murata's supercapacitors feature the lowest levels of ESR throughout the industry.

Murata have two series of supercapacitors, the DMT series which features a wide operating temperature range and high reliability, and the DMF series featuring ultra-low ESR (<100mΩ). The DMT series can be used in a wide range of applications whereas the DMF series is suitable for high power applications.

There is a growing market demand for lower profile devices such as SSD or card-type devices, Murata have addressed this demand by adding the new 220mF model (DMT3N4R2U224M3DTA0) which features the lowest profile in the DMT series line-up. This product allows engineers to make end products thinner and can be used to improve end-product performance by stabilizing the system power line. The new product has a thickness of 2.2mm with high capacity of 220mF and low ESR of 300mΩ. The new product benefits from the same wide operating temperature range and long cycle life as the existing DMT product.

The Murata DMF and DMT supercapacitors are suitable for a wide range of applications including back up for enterprise storage systems, peak power assist for battery-driven low profile devices such as smart key, tracking devices, data transmission in wireless communication devices and sensors or as auxiliary power supply for devices with beacon.

Murata have produced a detailed supercapacitor technical guide covering principle and structure of the supercapacitor, circuit references, reliability, application uses and much more. Click here to download the technical guide.
