Introducing the LT8316 600V Input Micropower Flyback Controller which does not require an Opto Isolator from Analog Devices
Analog Devices provides complete power solutions with a full line-up of power management products, they make power design much easier with the LTpowerCAD® and LTspice® simulation programs coupled with their industry-leading design support. One such innovative power product is the LT8316 a micropower, high voltage flyback controller which does not need an opto-isolator for regulation. The device samples the output voltage from the isolated flyback waveform appearing across a third winding on the transformer. Quasi-resonant boundary mode operation improves load regulation, reduces transformer size, and maintains high efficiency.
At start-up, the LT8316 charges its INTVCC capacitor via a high voltage current source. During normal operation, the current source turns off and the device draws its power from a third winding on the transformer minimizing standby power dissipation.
Typical Application Circuit Schematic
The LT8316 operates from a wide range of input supply voltages from 16V to 600V and can deliver up to 100W of power, it has low quiescent current of just 75uA. The device offers excellent performance and can achieve high efficiency of greater than 90% under certain load conditions.
LT8316 Performance Graph
The LT8316 is supplied in a thermally enhanced 20-pin TSSOP package with four pins removed for high-voltage spacing and have an operating temperature range of -40°C to +125°C.
Demonstration boards are available for the LT8316 in three common circuit configurations to help engineers speed up the design process:
The DC2793A demonstration circuit is a high VIN no-opto synchronous flyback converter. The demo board outputs 5V and maintains tight regulation with a load current from 70mA to 7A. It is optimized to operate over a wide 140V to 450V DC input voltage range. Output voltage accuracy stays within ±5% over the entire input voltage and load range.
