Introducing Murata Ultra-broadband surface mount 3D Silicon capacitors for frequencies up to 100GHz, samples available from Anglia
The XBSC / UBSC / BBSC / ULSC series of Silicon capacitors from Murata are designed for DC blocking, coupling and bypass grounding applications in optical communication systems and high speed data systems or products.
The devices feature the unique technology of integrated passive devices in silicon developed by Murata, the technology offers low insertion loss, low reflection and high phase stability from 16 kHz up to more than 100 GHz for the XBSC, up to more than 60 GHz for the UBSC, up to 40 GHz for the BBSC and up to 20 GHz for the ULSC. The silicon capacitors have been developed using a 3D deep trench semiconductor MOS process and provide very high reliability and capacitance stability over voltage (0.1%/V) and temperature (60 ppm/K) demanded in very high frequency applications.
Murata 3D Silicon capacitor technology explained
The Silicon capacitors are available in extremely low profile 0201M, 0201, 0402 and 0603 case sizes with values from 1nF up to 100nF (depending on series), standard capacitance tolerance of ±15% and breakdown voltage of 11VDC or 30VDC depending on model selected.
The Silicon capacitors have an extended operating temperature range from -55 to 150°C and have reliable and repeatable performance thanks to Murata’s fully controlled production line which has high temperature curing (above 900℃) that generates a highly pure oxide, the FIT reliability is quoted at <0.017 PPB hours for all four series.
The XBSC / UBSC / BBSC / ULSC series are compliant with standard JEDEC assembly rules, making the product fully compatible with high speed automated pick-and-place manufacturing operations. The capacitors are RoHS-compliant and are available either with ENIG terminations or lead-free pre-bumping depending on the case size.
The Murata Silicon capacitors are suitable for a range of Ultra-broadband frequency applications including Optical high-speed data communications, Trans-Impedance Amplifiers (TIA), Receive-and-Transmit Optical Sub-Assembly (ROSA / TOSA), Synchronous Optical Networking (SONET), High speed digital logic, Broadband microwave / millimetre wave equipment and Broadband test instrumentation.
